Dr. Amy Leung

PhD MPhty PDPhty APAM MACP AFHEA

I have more than 35 years of experience in treating babies and children with developmental, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions both in Australia and Hong Kong.   I graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic with a Professional Diploma in Physiotherapy. After graduation, I immediately pursued my passion for working in paediatrics in Hong Kong and Australia. I strive to develop my paediatric physiotherapy skills and completed a Bobath Course in London (1990), and the Master of Physiotherapy (Paediatric Physiotherapy) from The University of Queensland in 1998.   I obtained my Doctor of Philosophy (Paediatric Physiotherapy) from The University of Queensland in 2017. My research focus is on Positional Plagiocephaly (flattened head shape) in babies. I am the recipient of the prestige ‘Yvonne Burns Award’ for the best postgraduate paediatric physiotherapy research of the year.   I have published 5 papers in peer reviewed international journals and presented at numerous international and national conferences, workshops and seminars. My expertise in this area is both clinical and theoretical.   Throughout my career, I have worked in non-government organisations, hospitals and community health clinics. I have also worked closely with other clinical professionals including Paediatricians, Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathologists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Podiatrists and Orthotists. I incorporate my diverse knowledge and experience in the clinical management of children. Most importantly, parents/carers are in partnership with me to work towards their goals. This holistic approach enhances children to maximise their potential and achieve their goals.   My passion is to help children, support their families and strengthen communities. I have practised in Brisbane for the past 25+ years. I have cross-cultural experiences and well respect different parenting practices in their cultures. It is also my professional goal to share my knowledge and experience in child development related topics to the public. This can be further enhanced by my ability to speak fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin.   I have been awarded the ‘Paediatric’ titled membership by the Australian Physiotherapy Association (since 2008) in recognition of my expertise and contribution to Paediatric Physiotherapy. I am registered with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia and currently holding a casual academic role in the University of Queensland.
